What’s that, BVB Fan- und Förderabteilung?
Borussia Dortmund was founded in 1909. Today, there are four divisions: football, table tennis, handball – and the BVB Supporters Association, in German: BVB Fan- und Förderabteilung.
The Borussia Dortmund Supporters Association was founded in 2004. That time was marked by financial problems and demonstrations of numerous fans who were furious and disappointed with the club’s management. The CEO and the president had been managing the club for years without including the fans in their decisions.
The BVB Supporters Association was founded as a mouthpiece for the fans into important boards of the club. It aimed at bringing the fans‘ arguments, opinions and requests to the executive committees of Borussia Dortmund. Nine years after its establishment, these tasks still represent an important part of the volunteers‘ work in the BVB Supporters Association. Moreover, the volunteers organise special trains, charter flights, boat and, of course, bus trips for BVB fans to attend away games of the team. It is also important for the BVB Supporters Association to defend the values of Borussia Dortmund, meaning: taking a firm stand against racism, xenophobia and homophobia and promoting a peaceful atmosphere among BVB fans and beyond.
Nowadays, more than 13.000 members are united in the Supporters Association, making it the biggest division of Borussia Dortmund e.V. after the football division.
